The Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a resolution approving Mr Segun Abiru as the acting Clerk of the House.
Abiru was the Director of Finance and Administration (DFA) of the Assembly.
Speaking during the resumed sitting of the assembly after six weeks’ recess, Mr Mudashiru Obasa (ACN, Agege 1), observed that resolution became necessary since the former Clerk, Mr Taiwo Olatunji, had retired.
He said that it was proper, going by the laws of the House for a resolution to be passed approving acting Clerk, pending the appointment of a substantive Clerk.
Obasa said that the resolution would empower the Clerk to perform his duties and also hold him liable if he goes “against any of the dictates of the office“.
Mr Hudewu Avoseh (ACN, Badagry 1, subsequently moved a motion to that effect and it was seconded by Mrs Adefunmilayo Tejuosho (Mushin 1) and the members voted in support of the motion.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abiru is the next in rank to Olatunji, who retired from service on Aug. 29, 2011, after 32 years in service.
