Man Steals Police Uniform

The police at Maroko Division, Lekki, Eti Osa, Lagos, have arrested a man, Tinubu Michael, 25, and arraigned him before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a two-count charge of stealing police uniform in order to impersonate.

The police alleged in the charge suit K/36/2011 that the accused on 18 September, 2011 at about 15:00 hours at Lekki Phase 1, Eti Osa, Lagos State stole police uniform with all its regalia valued N5,000, property of Inspector Patrick Agbo from where he hung them to dry.

During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to stealing the uniform to impersonate the police officer.

The offence, according to the prosecutor, Inspector Umane who stood in for ASP Boddy Omenogor are punishable under section 428 (d) and 390 (9) of the criminal code cap 17 laws of Lagos State, 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate, Mr. B.A Sonuga, who stood in for Mrs. O.O. Martins, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the matter till 2 November, 2011.

The accused was remanded at Ikoyi prison when nobody came to bail him before the court closed for the day.
