Police In Lagos Assure Of Crime-Free Ember Months
The police in Lagos Wednesday assured Lagosians of crime-free EMBER months this year but appealed to them for understanding to enable the security agencies carry out their duties effectively.
The State’s Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, Mr. Tunde Sobulo, who gave the assurance after a meeting of the State’s Security Council, said the Security agencies in the state have put some measures in place to combat the criminals but added that some of the measures may present a little inconvenience to the people.
Answering questions from Government House Correspondents at the Lagos House venue of the meeting, Sobulo said though crime has observably been reduced in the last few months, the one area security agencies are still experiencing some problems was the case of cars being removed by robbers from where they are parked by robbers.
According to the police boss, the security agencies have discovered that the car thieves use the exit points from the state to get away with their loot adding that extra security has been mounted at exit points to curtail their movement.
He said as a result of these measures, motorists may experience slight hold ups at the exit points of the state adding, however, that the police has recorded some success since the measures were put in place.
He advised that car owners should put extra security in their cars to frustrate car thieves.
Sobulo, who attributed the significant reduction in crime in the state to the “superb cooperation†among the security agencies, comprising the army, the navy, the air force and the police, declared, “We have been working together before now and we will continue to work together to make sure that we achieve an EMBER crime free period.
“We have achieved a lot in the last few months. We were able to foil an armed robbery attack on Zenith Bank in Apapa where two armed robbers were arrested right there in the bank. They went there with burglary equipment, gas cylinder and other implements. They were arrested based on the cooperation between the Federal SARS, the military and the policeâ€, he said.
Sobulo said traffic-wise, the security agencies would work with the state’s Transport Management Agency (LASTMA), the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) and the state’s Divisional Traffic Office of the Police Command to manage and monitor the expected large volume of vehicular traffic during the EMBER months in the State.
“The arrangement is on, the plan is on. I am assuring members of the public, the society and the community that we are going to try our best for them. The heavy movement of traffic is going to be monitored and we know the hours, the times and the areas of concentration. We are going to do our best in that regard,†he said.
