Okada Thief Nabbed In Police Barracks

The police at Lion Building Police Division, Campbell Street, Lagos Island, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, have arrested a suspected motorcycle thief and arraigned him in the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a Boxer motorcycle from where it was parked inside Ijeh Police Barracks.

The police alleged that the accused, Ismaila USman, 21, on 13 August, 2011 about 12 noon at Ijeh barracks, Obalende, stole a Boxer Bajaj motorcycle valued at N100,000 property of Akanaya Kadara.

Luck, however, ran out on Usman when he was allegedly caught by neighbours who saw him trying to drive the motorcycle away.

He was handed over to the police and after investigation, he was charged before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court for stealing.

The offences, according to ASP Nicholas Anieke, are punishable under Section 516 and 390 (10A) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 17, 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. O. A. Layinka, who stood in for C.J. Momodu, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties who must produce evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State government for three years.

She adjourned the case till 6 October, 2011.

The accused was remanded in Ikoyi Prison when he could not meet the bail conditions.
