An Information Technology (IT) expert, Mr Frank Cohen, says the demand for other mobile communication devices like smart phone and iPad has increased globally at the expense of Personal Computers and laptops.
Cohen, who is the President of Systems Applications Products (SAP), made the observation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Friday.
He said that the penetration of these new devices was growing rapidly, adding that there were about 4.5 billion mobile communication devices globally.
According to him, the desire to communicate with phones and use the Internet service had led to the huge growth in mobile cell phones and other mobile devices.
“Mobile devices are now transforming communication and information technology development into a mobile world.
“The use of mobile devices has become preferred, not only for games or shopping, but for work,” he said.
The IT expert said that a survey conducted in China showed that about 70 per cent of the population preferred other mobile device to laptops.
Cohen said that efforts were being made to promote the mobile communication industry, stating that the using smart phones could change the way businesses were being transacted.
He said that this would also enhance intimacy with the ecosystem.
