Independence Celebration: Lagos PDP Replies ACN

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has chided the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, over its criticism of President Goodluck Jonathan for the low key celebration at Aso Rock to mark this year’s Independence Anniversary.

The ACN through its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, had posited that the Federal Government’s decision to hold the Independence celebration at Aso Rock instead of the Eagle Square was a show of cowardice to the threat by MEND.

The PDP averred that this current criticism was a confirmation that the ACN is either bereft of humane governance or deliberately out to pull down the Federal Government.

According to the party state publicity secretary, Comrade Taofeek Gani, “The Party is shocked that ACN did not appreciate the said style which has now prevented loss of lives of innocent Nigerians.

“There was a threat by MEND to bomb Eagle Square on Independence Day. This time around, the Presidency was proactive and “cowardly” wise to make useless the plans of the would be attackers rather than engage in idiotic boldness as counselled by the ACN.

“The same ACN would have condemned the Presidency if it went ahead to use the Eagle Square and allow bomb blasts to kill innocent Nigerians. While the Lagos State PDP is not supporting the bombers, it believes that the Federal Government’s option to “jaw jaw” is better than “war war” in order to find a lasting solution to the menace. More so, these are also Nigerians,” he said.

The party, therefore, advised the ACN to reposition its Publicity Office to fit the realities on ground and desist from inflammatory and destructive criticisms.

“Nigeria is our only country,” he said.
