Safety Vision Set To Tackle Nigeria’s Security Challenges

That the Federal Government of Nigeria could jettison the age-long tradition of holding the Independent Day Anniversary celebration at the Eagle Square due to threats by the Boko Haram sect and the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) is a clear signal that government does not have the capacity to tackle the emerging security challenges in the country.

The precision with which key places in the country were successfully bombed by Boko Haram shows more than ever that any rogue gang or violent-minded dissidents can take on the deplorable Nigerian security system.

Presently, the Nigerian Police, which is charged with the internal security of the country, appears to be at loss for a solution while other security arms are applying solutions that are apparently archaic and ineffective.

No doubt, fear and apprehension have become the order of the day as government and its many security arms seem incapable of adequately securing the life and properties of the citizenry.

A security company, Safety Vision Nigerian Limited, located in Lagos, however, appears to have a solution to the situation. Safety Vision is a security company and with its headquarters in the United States of America. The company’s approach is simply known as Response System with Advanced Technology.

The system works with the setting up of a Police Response Command Centre where emergency, distress calls, monitoring, command deployment and control are configured for immediate response in the event of any danger to life or property.

The command centre, which will be equipped with the latest in computer technology and seamless communication system, will bring together all security and emergency response agencies to function as a single unit.

The police, fire services, ambulance/hospital services, road safety, civil defense and other agencies are expected to log into the command centre for information sharing on emergency and security matters.

For the command centre to work properly, Safety Vision proposes a Crime Data Base where crime records will be stored on daily basis. The base will also have records of every citizen in the country. According to the company, this will help to reduce the number of questions required when someone calls the command centre to report an emergency or crime.

When the police command centre and the data base are properly in place, Safety Vision plans to bring in its latest patrol cars for actual crime detection and prevention.

The patrol vehicles have the latest technology that is now being used in advanced countries of the world to effectively combat crimes on the street, highways and neighborhoods.

The technology in the patrol cars is fully loaded with capacity to share information to and from any other security agencies that are linked to the police command centre.

Some features of the patrol car includes digital IP camera for surveillance, full image capturing capacity, voice recording and mini cell.

The Digital IP camera in the patrol car makes it difficult for anyone to sidetrack in the event of any emergency because the system is professionally configured with non-stop recording capability.

The special image capturing device in the car makes it possible to capture full image at 306 degree radius including the image and activities of the patrol operator. The voice recording device in the car also makes it possible to identify culprits simply through their voice.

The patrol car also has a special device to enhance accurate detection of fake vehicle particulars and drivers license on the high car. Because of the in-built long lasting battery, the car needs no alternative power supply.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS, Managing Director of Safety Vision, Dr Bola Yusuf, said the patrol car with in-built equipment, would help the police to enhance emergency response capacity, provide a functional national crime data base and tracking devices that would help them in their surveillance operations.

He said the company would develop Police Response Command Centre, a centralised area where emergency, distress calls, monitoring, command deployment and control are configured for immediate responses in the event of any danger to lives and property.

The company, he further stressed, could also create a data base where crime records are stored daily.

“Information can be obtained here within one minute. This information includes officers’ identification and their locations at any given time,” he explained.

The patrol car is not just the normal conventional patrol vehicle, used by the Nigeria Police. The technology in the latest patrol car has the capacity to share information with any other security agency that is linked to the police data centre.

In advanced countries, for instance, the sophisticated patrol car helps the police to effectively combat crimes in the streets, highway and neighbourhood.

Explaining how the bullet-proof patrol car functions, Dr. Yusuf said the car has a digital IP camera for surveillance, which makes it difficult for anyone to sidetrack, in the event of any emergency. The reason is that the system is professionally configured with non-stop recording capability. It also has equipment that could capture the full image of persons and things. The in-built device could capture full image at 360 degrees radius, including the image and the activities of the patrol operator.

He said: “It is amazing! The patrol car also records voice, which makes crime detection and subsequent arrest very easy. Culprits can easily be identified by his/her voice.”

One of the unique features of the patrol car is that it has a memory which records what happens as it is being used to track down criminals and plays back what happened during an operation. Not even the security agents, who operate the vehicle are spared. Unethical behaviours like taking of bribes and other sharp practices are recorded. It has three parts, its brain box, black box and memory.

The memory does not stop as it collects and records information all the time. It has a hard disc that stores all recordings. Besides other functions, the patrol car has a specialised device to enhance detection of fake vehicle particulars and drivers licence on the highways; monitor inter-border movements with a view to accurately identifying illegal immigrants, among others.

“This can be achieved, if the Nigerian Immigration Service is configured to Nigeria Police data centre, to share information.

“This will, no doubt, step down the fear of terrorism and other vices that can be a threat to this country,” he said.

Just like the last bombing of the UN building in Abuja on 26 August, 2011, the vehicle would have been able to expose the perpetrators even before they executed the heinous act.

“Let us put in a system that will expose everybody. This is the time to do it. If there were collaborators, the system would have exposed them because all you need is to get all the identifications of all the staff of UN in Abuja into the system. You can also track all movements in and out. You can even play back whatever happened that day. Unfortunately, no one can play back what happened at the UN building that day,” he regretted.
