Conductor Docked Over Manslaughter

A trailer conductor, Kenneth Ahayo, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly killing through dangerous and reckless driving.

Ahayo, 27, was arraigned on a three-count charge of manslaughter, reckless driving and driving without licence.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Inedu, said that Ahayo allegedly drove the trailer truck recklessly and caused the death of Okisu Amonuaya.

He said the accused allegedly committed the offence on Sept. 15 at about 9 p.m. along the Apapa/Oshodi Expressway by Second Gate.

Inedu said the alleged offences contravened parts of the Road Traffic Law Act (RTA) of Lagos state.

The accused however pleaded guilty to the first count charge of manslaughter while he pleaded not guilty to the remaining two-count charge of dangerous driving and driving without licence.

Senior Magistrate Amos Adeyemi ordered that the accused should be remanded in Kirikiri prisons and adjourned further hearing till Oct. 19.
