Epe Elders Back Chairmanship Candidate
The tussle over who becomes the candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Epe Local Government in the 22 October council polls in Lagos State has been put to rest as the Epe Indigenous Elders Forum has backed the incumbent chairman, Jamiu Agbaje.
The elders and other stakeholders have finally thrown their weight behind Agbaje after series of meetings with the residents.
Spokesman for the forum who is also the Balogun Adini of the town, Alhaji Surakat Apena, told journalists after a meeting that the reason for their fresh action was due to intervention by the party’s leadership in the state.
“We need to respect the party executives like Senator Bola Tinubu, Cardinal James Odumbaku, Governor Fashola, Otunba Ajomale and not some people who contributed to the non-development of the town,†he declared,.
Apena who turned 84 last Saturday, regretted that Epe was still lagging behind among the five divisions in the state in terms of industries, good roads and electricity, citing the abandoned Epe High Court and Ikorodu-Itokikin-Epe Road as examples.
“The councillorship posts, we learnt, had been shared among the politicians, but supervisory posts should be left for people of the town to decide and anything short of this may cause misunderstanding.
“We elders and youths did not take even one kobo from anybody before rescinding our former decision and it would be unwise of anyone to say that elders are the problems of the community,†the octogenarian stated.
The residents, however, called on ACN leaders in the area, particularly Alhaji Seriki Bamu to leave Agbaje alone this time to enable him spread the dividends of democracy to the people.
