2,500 PDP Members Defect To ACN

The Peoples’ Democratic Party has suffered a set-back even before next week’s local government elections as about 2,500 members in Somolu local government defected to the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.

Chief Henry Ajomale, the state chairman of Action Congress of Nigeria, who received the defectors to the ACN camp said the development has finally seen the end of the PDP in Somolu/Bariga Local Government.

“With what happened today, I have no doubt in my mind that PDP is dead in this local government and Somolu/Bariga is now without opposition.”

Ajomale charged the new AC N members to work vigorously for the party in the coming election.

Commenting on the development, both Mr. Gbolahan Bagostowe and Sulaimon Omoleye, chairmen of Shomolu Local Government Area and Bariga Local Council Development Area, respectively, said the defectors were motivated by the performance of Governor Babatunde Fashola and the council chairmen.

Leading the defectors who were from Deacon’s Caucus of PDP, Chief Adeoye Oriade, Chairman, Shomolu/Bariga LGA and Reverend Timothy Oyasodun, thanked the leadership of Action Congress of Nigeria for accepting them into the party.

They said with their defection to ACN has ended the existence of PDP, promising to do everything to ensure that ACN wins the chairmen and councillors’ seats in the two council areas.

The leaders of the defectors said PDP as a party lacks internal democracy.
