Dosumu Cup Kicks Off Sunday
The much awaited second edition of U-15 Ade Dosumu Soccer Competition will kick off on Sunday at the Oshodi Sports Centre.
The tourney which is sponsored by the PDP governorship candidate in the last elections in Lagos State, Ade Dosumu, and other political bigwigs are expected to watch the opening match between Young Strikers of Ebute Metta and Puma FC of Ojo.
Three matches have been lined up for the opening day as Flaming FC will battle Dolphin FC, Alaro FC will confront Beachland while Yinka Babes will tackle Royal FC in the last match of the day.
Chairman of the competition’s Organising Committee, Moses Andrew, said all arrangements have been made to stage a colourful opening ceremony. He disclosed that all the participating teams will be given consolatory prizes by the cup donor.
He explained that the tourney is to discover young talents that can be drafted to the junior national team in the nearest future.
Andrew who expressed displeasure with performance of Nigeria teams in the recent international competition, said it is time for Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to look inward and develop the game from the grassroots level.
“Not only the Super Eagles that have problems, but our sports generally need overhaul and the only way our sports can be back on track is to go back to the grassroots.
