Adamawa IPMAN Advises FG On Removal Of Oil Subsidy
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria ( IPMAN), Adamawa chapter, has advised the Federal Government to review the proposed removal of oil subsidy to avoid subjecting Nigerians to further hardship.
Alhaji Abdul’ azeez Allah-Jabi , the state Secretary of the association, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola, on Thursday, that the removal of the subsidy would worsen the living condition of the poor people.
According to Abdulazeez, some non-oil producing African countries, such as Mali and Guinea are even supporting their people with oil subsidy.
“Removing oil subsidy means creating additional pain for Nigerians who are already crippled by bad governance and corruption,†Abdulazeez said.
He advised government to concentrate on its current reforms particularly in the area of agriculture to boost its revenue.
On the issue that only few individuals were enjoying the oil subsidy, he said there was the need for government to address the national oil policy and revitalise the oil industry.
“If government is serious on the development of the economy, it should revitalise its oil industry especially the ailing refineries and the abandoned oil depots across the country,†he said .
He urged the Federal Government to listen to calls against the removal of the subsidy so as not to increase the burden of the people.
