A Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, NBB of C board member, Victor John, has described Nigeria’s Light Welterweight hopeful, Olusegun Ajose, as the pride of the nation.
The NBB of C topshot yesterday made the comment in a chat with Boxing In Focus while speaking on Ajose’s recent victory over the Algeria-born Canadian boxer, Ali Chebah, in faraway California, USA.
“Ajose has done a great thing by winning an elimination bout which has automatically qualified him to go for the world title. He has become a hero in Nigeria. He has written his name in gold as far as professional boxing is concerned in Nigeria. I am very glad that a thing like this is happening when I am a member of the board,†said John.
The NBB of C board member revealed that the board is already making efforts to ensure that more boxers like Ajose are assisted to achieve their goals.
“The board is doing everything to ensure that we produce more boxers like Ajose. We have many potential boxing champions in the country. We will surely do our best to help these boxers achieve their goals,†said John.
He, however, appealed to corporate organisations to help promote professional boxing in the country by sponsoring boxing shows.
“Corporate organisations have a big role to play in promoting professional boxing in the country. They need to sponsor more boxing tourneys where our boxers can express themselves,†added John.
