Gunmen on Thursday killed the Treasurer of Albasu Local Government Area of Kano State, Alhaji Garba Bichi, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
An eye-witness told NAN in Kano on Thursday that the incident happened around 8.30 a.:m. when Bichi was on his way to his office.
According to the witness, the hoodlums fired several shots at the treasurer while he was in his car, a few kilometres to the local government headquarters.
It was gathered that after the shoot-out the gunmen fled without taking anything from the victim.
The deceased has been buried in his home town Bichi, the headquarters of Bichi Local Government Area of the state, the source added.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, Mr Magaji Majiya (ASP), confirmed the incident, saying that a team of police detectives had been drafted to the area.
“We are yet to get details of the incident, but our men have swung into action to arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act,†he said.
