LG Polls: Vote For ACN Candidates —Fashola Urges Lagosians

The campaign train of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) for the forthcoming local government elections in Lagos State coasted in Alimosho Local Government Thursday with the State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), urging voters in the area to ensure the election of all the six chairmanship candidates of the party in the area to enhance its rapid development.

Addressing the capacity crowd of party chieftains and supporters at the premises of Abesan High School, Abesan, Governor Fashola said he would prefer to work with ACN chairmen in all the local governments and local council development areas who, according to him, bear the symbol of the party.

The governor told the people, “I will like to work with ACN chairmen in all the local governments in Lagos State. I don’t want to work with any strange party at all. All these chairmen must be elected”, adding, “If you perform your duty by voting in the chairmen, leave the rest to me.”

Governor Fashola, who said he was not quite impressed by the fact that not up to four million out of the six million registered voters in the state actually voted in the last elections, urged the people, “On Saturday, the 22 October, the day of election, do not stay indoors. All of you must come out enmasse because I want us to have four million votes.”

The governor urged all the chairmanship and councillor candidates who lost in the party’s primaries to eschew any bitterness and work with the rest of the people to ensure the victory of the party in the coming election.

“All of you who were not given the ticket should work harder and work hand in hand with those who have gotten the ticket”, the governor urged, adding that it would further enhance his effectiveness as he would not like to work with “a strange party.”

Governor Fashola said that as a result of the importance the government attached to Alimosho Local Government, the local government was split into six to expedite development in the area, adding that this was made possible by the visionary leadership of his predecessor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Assuring the people of rapid infrastructure development, the governor announced that the contract for the Ayobo-Ipaja Road has been awarded following the request of their chairman, adding that work would commence on the road in the next two weeks.

Also, according to the governor, “the contractor handling Isheri-Oshun Bridge will soon get his money; it is money that was delaying the work before; and you will enjoy it when it is completed because it will last for 35 years”. The governor said work would soon begin also at the Igando Housing Estate as he promised during his governorship campaigns for the April 2011 elections, adding that signs of his administration’s readiness to work in the area would soon be evident in the next few weeks.

Also speaking at the rally, the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, also urged the people of Alimosho to vote massively for the party candidates in the coming election, pointing out that the area has always had representatives in government of the state at all times.

“The people of Alimosho should count themselves worthy because the Lagos State Deputy Governor is from this area and the present Governor of Osun State is from this area as well,” Asiwaju Tinubu said.

The National Leader poured encomiums on Governor Fashola whom he described as “very good successor, hardworking, incorruptible, unrelenting, visionary and actualizer of our time” among others, adding, “I am proud to have surported Fashola when I left office because he makes me proud at all times. He has even turned around Lagos State to be a model mega-city State”.
