Nigeria, A Place To Be —Anibie
Ivorian player, Sylvain Anibie, has stated that Nigeria is a place to be when it is time to play tennis in West Africa and Africa as a whole in terms of facilities and organisation of the game.
Anibie stated this after securing his main draw ticket in a match between him and his Nigerian opponent, Monday Igbinovia, played at the Lagos Tennis Club, Onikan.
He won the game in straight sets 6.3, 6.3 to edge out the Nigerian player from one of the most glamorous tennis events in Africa, Asia and some parts of Europe.
Anibie said his victory shows that he is ready to steal the show at the annual tennis fiesta, though admitting that the road to the success would not be easy for him.
“Nigeria is the toast of every good player to be and play. The Lagos Tennis Club has offered us best facilities. So I’m happy to be here and play in the tourney. I won’t be disrespectful to other players here by boasting that I would win the championship, but if the opportunity comes, I would grab it,†he said.
Anibie rated this year’s edition of the Governor’s Cup very high, saying there are many great players competing in the tourney. “ We have good players participating in this tourney which makes the championship more competitive,†he said.
