Three Charged Over Stolen Speed Boat

The police at the Marine Division Ikoyi, Lagos, have charged three before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a two-count charge of stealing a boat from where it was kept.

The police allegd that the accused Akinyoye Gbenga Omotere, 20 and Dami Faro, 23 were arrested following a complaint lodged by one Tope Ishola that the speed boat he anchored at the Ajegunle waterside has been stolen and that he suspected the three accused.

Following the complaint, the police swung into action and arrested the three accused persons.

During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to stealing the boat.

After investigations, they were charged to the court for stealing.

The offence according Inspector Peter Nwangwu are punishable under the Criminal Code.

Court two reads: “That you Samuel Akintoye, Gbenga Omofere and Dami Faro and others now at large on September 2011 at the aforementioned magisterial district did steal one speed boad with inscription Stamina Marine mounted with 15 Hp Yamaha engine valued at N1 million, property of Tope Ishola.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and the presidng magistrate, Mrs. A. F. O. Abegun Davies, granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum who must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State government.

She adjourned the matter till 2 November, 2011 for mention.

The accused were remanded at Ikoyi Prison when they could not perfect their bail conditions.
