Woman Pleads Guilty To 419

A suspect, Mrs Rita Nwolu, 36 on Monday pleaded guity to a four-count charge of obtaining money under false pretence and stealing before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ejigbo.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant Olakunle Shonibare arraigned Nwolu before the court on the allegation that she collected the sum of 243,000 from five women under false pretence.

According to the police charge sheet, the offence is contrary and punishable under section 419 and 390 of the criminal code cap 17 laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2003.

Mrs Nwolu allegedly duped Mrs Beauty Akporido, Mrs Rose Mberebe, Mrs Florence Chukwu and Mrs Benedeth Okorie.

When the case was mentioned initially, the suspect pleaded not guilty, but she later changed her plea to guilty and begged for forgiveness.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs S.O Solebo adjourned the matter till 23 November, 2011 for the prosecution to present to the court the facts of the case before the suspect is sentenced.
