8 Robbers Kill Guard, Rob Bank

Eight armed robbers in the early hours of today stormed a new generation bank in Fagba area of Ifako-Ijaye, in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, and attacked the security guards, killing one and overpowering two others.

Sources told P.M.NEWS that the robbers destroyed the bank’s Automatic Teller Machine, ATM, to gain access into the banking hall. The source could not confirm if the robbers could access the bank’s vault but it was believed they were able to cart away millions of naira.

Contacted this morning, the bank officials who do not want their names mentioned, confirmed the robbery incident.

However, they refused to give further details but directed P.M.NEWS to contact the Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer. They said the robbery attack has been reported to the police for investigation.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Samuel Jinadu, requested our correspondent to call him again when he was contacted at press time.

The attack is contrary to the claims by the state Police Commissioner, Yakubu Alkali, that there has been no successful bank robbery since he took over in Lagos in January this year.
