Tourney Good For African Stars —Segode
Theophile Segode of Benin Republic has described the Governor’s Cup as the best in Africa, saying the championship has been offering players in Africa and other continents an opportunity to compete in the ITF tourney.
Segode stated this at the Lagos Tennis Club, Onikan, the venue of the Governor’s Cup.
He said if other countries in Africa could emulate Nigeria by organising ITF tourneys, the game would be developed on the continent.
“This is the best competition in Africa and it has been helping us to improve on ITF ranking . I wish other countries can follow the footstep of Nigeria by staging international tourneys,†he said.
He also called on corporate organisations to help develop the game in Africa, saying there are lots of talents in Africa but the environment is not conducive for them to rise to stardom.
