VW Hits 6m Global Sales

The Volkswagen Group sold over six million vehicles in the first nine months of 2011, setting a new record for the group

For the first time in its history, the German automaker sold 6.11 million vehicles, including the Scania truck division, in the first nine months of the year, marking a 13.9 per cent increase over the same period in 2010.

This puts the Volkswagen Group on par to set a new milestone in global sales figures for the year.

Regionally, the Volkswagen Group saw its sales increase by 17.3 per cent to 1.92 million in the Asia/Pacific markets; by 21.4 per cent to 485,400 units in North America; by 9.5 per cent to 700,900 vehicles in South America and by 10.8 per cent to 2.77 million units in Europe.

In its home market of Germany, the Volkswagen Group’s deliveries grew by 12.3 per cent to 864,400 units.

Overall, the Volkswagen brand sold 3.81 million vehicles in the period to September, up by 12.3 per cent; Audi delivered 973,200 units, an increase of 17.4 per cent; Skoda sold 664,800 vehicles, up by 16.8 per cent; SEAT shifted 266,800 units, up by 3.1 per cent and Volkswagen Commercial sold 389,900 vehicles, an increase of 25.5 per cent.
