Residents of some riverside communities in Lagos State were on Saturday advised to brace up for more flooding following an overflow of the Ogun River in neighbouring Ogun.

Specifically, the Lagos State Ministry of Environment has asked communities in Mile 12, Owode-Onirin, Agiliti, Isheri North and Majidun to be on alert as more rainfal and flooding were expected.

A statement by the ministry said that Ogun River has risen four metres above its normal level following incessant rain in the South-Western part of the country.

In this regard, the ministry urged residents of these communities to be prepared to move out to avoid loss of lives and property in the event of flooding.

“Residents of these communities are advised to be on the alert– but not panic– be prepared to move if need arise, as more rainfall is being expected.

“Those who don’t have a place to go, are assured of a place at the State Resettlement Centre,’’ the statement said.
