Governor’s Cup 2nd Leg: Nigerian Players Set To Redeem Image

Following their unimpressive performance in the first leg of the ongoing Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship, Nigerian players have resolved to redeem their image by putting up a better performance in the second leg of the tourney which Main Draws serve off today.

The first leg of the Governor’s Cup saw Nigerian players crashing out in the second round which made their fans write them off in the second leg of the championship, with the belief that they lack the prowess to compete with their foreign counterparts.

Speaking with P.M.Sports, Abdulmumini Babalola pleaded with Nigerians not to write them off, promising better performance in the second leg.

Babalola added that the players are ready to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians, but that the players should not be held responsible for the bad outing in the first leg of the tourney.

“I want to appeal to our fans to be patient with us; we would try our possible best to make them happy in the second leg of the tourney. We should not be blamed for the poor performance; it was due to being match rusty. When last did some of us play in a competitive game?” he asked.

Meanwhile, the main draws of the second leg of the ITF approved competition gets underway today after the qualifiers were decided at the weekend.

Some Nigerian players who scaled the hurdle of the qualifying matches are Kingsley Enosoregbe, Abdulmumini Babalola, Sunday Emmanuel, Pekun Akingbade, Sunday Maku and Sanni Adamu in the men’s categories, while Blessing Anuna and Abiola Akewula made it in the women’s categories
