LASU Student Protest Continue Over Increased Fees

Students of the Lagos State University (LASU) have continued to protest over the recent increment of their tuition fees by the State government.

The institution ,which has just got some of its courses re-accredited, has been facing student’s unrest since the increment was announced last week.

The students have vowed not to pay any amount above the existing fees they had been paying, which varies depending on the faculty.

Speaking with P.M NEWS on the issue this morning, the president of the Student’s Union Government (SUG), Akeeem Durojaiye, said the present administration of Governor Babatunde Fashola has become insensitive to plight of the students most of whom are children of ordinary Nigerians.

According to the Durojaiye, the governor acted on the report of the visitation panel to the school which put the tuition for the Faculty of Arts at N193,750; law,N248,750 and the Faculty of the Social and Management Science at N223,750.

He also said the College of Medical and Engineering had their school fees increased to N298,750 and #348,750 respectively.

The Vice President of the SUG of the institution, Onofisayo Sanni, also said that the students were not considered or carried along before the decision on tje new tuition fee was taken by the visitation panel.

According to her, “the government and university management are using divide and rule tactics because we were told there was no going back on the increment.

The Student said they will not relent in their opposition to the increase till the government rescinds its decision.
