Jonathan Urged Not To Heat Up Polity
Politician and Elder statesman, Senator Anthony Adefuye, has warned the President Jonathan administration against heating up the polity by curbing the excesses of security agencies.
He also advised the President to guide against the arrest of journalists and others in the performance of their lawful duties. He charged the administration to concern itself with revamping of the economy through effective service delivery.
Speaking with journalists recently, Senator Adefuye queried the rationale behind the arrest of the four editors of The Nation newspapers which he described as unfortunate and a national disgrace. Berating the action as indecent and undemocratic, he asked: “Was the letter written at all? How was it forged, aggravated or authored? What was the source?â€
Adefuye, while charging those in authority to rule with the fear of God, also urged security agents to tread cautiously against the abuse of citizens rights.
He reiterated the need for cooperation between the government and the media, especially concerning the rule of law.
Commenting on the proposed removal of oil subsidy by the administration, Senator Adefuye warned of the unpalabable consequences of such an action, as this will definitely aggravate poverty in the land.
He called on the Federal Government, labour leaders, political and social activists to be careful and guide against unrest that might arise from the subsidy removal.
He urged president Jonathan administration put on the ground socio economic structures that would cushion the problems of the masses before the imposition of the alleged tyrannical policy that may heat up the polity in the land and lead to chaos and unrest.
