At least 2,000 casual workers recruited by Noble Nigeria PLC protested on Iju Road this morning over poor pay by their employer.

The workers, mostly youths, blocked the Iju Road, causing mild traffic on the road. They carried placards demanding for increment in their salary.

Some of the placards carried by the protesters read: Increment Of Salary, Staffing Of Casual; Please, Increment Is What We Need; No Quality Salary, No Quality Work, No School Certificate Among Us; Stopping Of N500 Per Day, We Want N1,800 Per Day and Baba God, Help Us, among others.

The protesters said they were being paid a paltry N500 per day by the company, which produces weavons and attachment materials.

One of the workers told P.M. NEWS that they resume 8.00 am and close 5.00 pm daily, protesting that the N500 being paid was not commensurate with the work they were doing.

They lamented that the company has poor condition of service for workers, saying that they did not have access to medical facility and forced to use poor toilet facilities, among others.

According to one of the workers, “they use us like pigs. Police came in here and were shooting. The work we do here is hard.”

As at the time of filing this report, P.M.NEWS gathered that the management of the company was meeting with representatives of the workers to resolve the crisis.
