Boxers Set Rowe Park Aglow, As Monthly Hall Of Fame Bouts Hold
All hands are to the pump as boxers get set for the monthly Saturday Boxing Show billed to hold tomorrow, 29 October at Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, (Rowe Park) Yaba, Lagos.
The monthly event, which promises a great fireworks, is packaged by Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame, LBHF, in conjuction with Lagos Amateur Boxing Assocition, LABA.
Slugging it out in the 49kg category are the duo of Ismaila Agbaje and Adeyinka Kehinde while Kehinde Ajibola will trade punches with Balogun Abdullahi in the 52kg category.
Rasheed Aremu will stand toe to toe with Sikiru Shogboesan in the 56kg category while Mukaila Yaya and Hamed Rufai will put their abilities to test in the 60kg category.
Dumade Babatunde and Oliwo Kazeem will try to outpunch eachother in the 60kg category while Kazeem Saka will exchange blows with Olayinka Simon in the 64kg category.
Tosin Oyewole will trade punches with Segun Ibrahim in the 69kg category while Daniel Ovie will slug it out with Sunday Okoro in the 91kg category.
The only female bout at the tourney will involve the duo of Nofisat Hassan and Elizabeth Osoja.
LBHF State Coordinator, Yusuf Sulaiman, in a chat with Boxing In Focus, said the monthly event is organised to promote amateur boxing in Lagos State.
“The main objective of the monthly Saturday Boxing Show is to promote boxing and to discover potential champions in Lagos State. We also make it a point of duty to help and encourage amateur boxers in the state,†said Sulaiman
Sulaiman said that LBHF is using the monthly show as an avenue for amateur boxers in the state to express themselves and to stay busy.
“We are using the boxing show as a platform for our boxers to express themselves and to be productive. The fact that many boxers that have participated in our monthly shows are now boxing champions is a sign that we have achieved our goal,†said Sulaiman.
The LBHF topshot disclosed that the body has other ways of promoting boxing in the state aside the monthly boxing event.
“Apart from organising monthly boxing shows, we also have an international boxing tourney tagged Lagos Versus Repton Boys Club of London.
The tourney is designed to expose our boxers to their counterparts in the United Kingdom,†added Sulaiman.
