FIFA Tasks African Administrators

Francesco Bruscoli, FIFA manager in charge of development programmes in Africa, has directed football associations to set periodic targets for their technical directors to implement programmes and ensure their sustainability.

“The technical directors of national associations should be given at least a four-year mandate on contractual basis,’’ Bruscoli said in Accra on Thursday at the climax of a seminar for general secretaries and technical directors of 17 African football associations.

“This is not a commitment but rather an obligation and we hope for those associations who are not practicing this at the moment, make it a must to start immediately,’’ he added.
He lauded Ghana for the successful organisation of the four-day seminar.

“Ghana has demonstrated its competence in its organisation in all sectors and it is not surprising that their teams do very well on the field of play,’’ Bruscoli said.

The round-table discussion was committed to sharing ideas geared at improving the administrative and technical structure of the sport in Africa and would also seek to keep participants abreast with FIFA’s development programmes and grand plan for football.

It was also aimed at discussing new managerial skills of the general secretaries as well as revive the technical abilities of the technical directors.

The course also provided a platform for organisers to interact with football administrators to undertake advance strategies towards the development of football on the continent.

Participants then broadened their knowledge of FIFA development programmes, the transfer system for players, licensing of coaches, the strategic roles of the technical directors and general secretaries.

It also covered the importance of the four task forces set up by the FIFA executive committee to reform the game.
