Lagos Cancels Sanitation Exercise
Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola has cancelled the monthly sanitation exercise tomorrow so that party faithful could participate in the swearing in of council chairmen and councillors.
According to the Lagos Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello, the government has suspended the restriction of movement for the exercise.
The government, however, urged Lagosians to still clean up their homes and surroundings to ensure a cleaner and sustainable environment in the State.
Bello in a statement further implored Lagosians to clean their homes and rid them of filth irrespective of the non-restriction of movement.
He urged the entire residents of the state to also concentrate on desilting the drains in their neighbourhood to allow free flow of storm water into the secondary and tertiary channels, which have already been cleaned up by the state government.
Bello observed that if the tertiary drains that transfer storm water from the homes to the secondary channels are not cleaned by residents, this creates disruption in the flow of storm water from the trained path which eventually leads to flooding.
