PDP Wants LASIEC Chairman, Returning Officers Arrested

The Lagos State PDP has called on the State Security Services and the Police to immediately arrest the LASIEC Chairman, Justice Fatai Adeyinka (rtd), Mrs Tokunboh Fatoyinbo and all the LG/LCDA Returning Officers. This call was made by the party on the heels of the protests that followed the announcement of the LG/LCDA elections.

Since the announcement of the results of the 57 council elections in favour of ACN, the masses and leaders of opposition parties have cried foul. Lagosians have been on street protests in some areas of the state.

In the particular case, the PDP, condemned the LASIEC Chairman for announcing the council election results, contrary to Section 51 (1-8) of the LASIEC LAW. The party is not happy that LASIEC announced the wrong results to favour ACN in Agbado/Oke-odo, Ikoyi-Obalende, Badagry, Somolu, Eredo, and many other wards. In these areas, the Returning Officers had announced the results with PDP candidates as winners

The party posited that the false results announced by the LASIEC chairman provoked the mass protests currently being experienced in some areas of the state. “Our party won in at least four local government areas and in 125 wards that we have the results signed by LASIEC officials and ACN agents in the various polling units’’ he said.

The party, however, appealed to Lagosians to remain calm, assuring that justice will prevail in the end.

Also speaking, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ghana and PDP chieftain, Dr Musiliu Obanikoro, said: “Since LASIEC could act the way it did, any other body set up by the state over the election, especially the Local Government Election Tribunal, cannot give justice’’.

Meanwhile, the party has joined other opposition parties and democrats in calling for the cancellation of the elections as, according to them, the process lacks credibility.
