As the Season Four of the on-going MTN Project Fame West Africa music talent hunt competition continues to gather momentum, six out of the 17 contestants are currently on probation, and two of them will be evicted this weekend.

The six contestants were placed on probation because they could not impress the judges with their performances last weekend. The contestants currently on probation are Kamar, Joe, Emmanuel, Ethel, Zaliha and Aziga.

During their first performance on Friday (21 October, 2011), virtually all the contestants gave a good account of themselves, and the judges and faculty members headed by veteran actress, Joke Silver, showered encomiums on them.

However, not all the contestants performed satisfactorily the following day and that prompted those in question to be placed on probation by the judges.

Kamar, who performed Thomas Thicke’s Lost Without You became a victim of probation not because he was a bad singer, but for what the judges and Faculty members described as his nonchalant attitude on stage. “He has more to offer but not disciplined enough to do it.”

As for Joe who sang Lemar’s Another Day, the judges said he needs to connect more with the audience and as well work on his stage craft.

Aziga is one of the best contestants. He has good and controllable voice, yet he was a victim of probation because he didn’t get his emotions right on stage. He performed Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On.

On a night that all the contestants were gripped with fear, Ethel became the first female to be called out for probation after her below par performance of Vanessa Williams’ You Are My Everything.

According to the judges, she needs to step up her vocal abilities.

The judges also placed Emmanuel on the probation list because “you need to learn to be more audible and connect to the crowd with your songs. Being on probation doesn’t mean we hate you, it is just an avenue to make sure you don’t rest on your oars.”

Meanwhile, it was Zaliha that completed the probation list for the first time since the music talent hunt competition began. The judges opined that with a little more effort, she would likely go far in the coveted competition.

As the eviction axe dangles, viewers have been voting to save their favourite contestants from being shown the exit door from the Project Fame Academy.
