2012 Sports Festival: Lagos Promises Good Hosting

Lagos State Government has reiterated its readiness to stage a colourful and memorable sports festival next year

Lagos Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barrister Enitan Oshodi, told journalists in Lagos that the state is working towards staging the best ever sports festival that will surpass the previous editions.

“I want to assure Nigerians that Lagos State is ready to host the best ever sports festival in the country. Lagos State is known as the Centre of Excellence, we would once again prove to Nigerians that we stand for excellence,” he said.

Oshodi added that the state is not leaving anything to chance to ensure that the state’s athletes put in their best in the biennial sporting event. He said the athlete’ allowances and emoluments are ready to ensure that they have absolute concentration on the festival.

“We lost some of our athletes to other states in the last sports festival held in Port Harcourt, which affected the state on the medal’s chart.

“Our athletes are now mature and motivated by the state government. We expect them to reclaim their first position on the medal’s table when we host the festival next year,”he said.

He commended the Local Organising Committee, LOC, of the Governor’s Cup, Lagos Tennis Championship, for staging a successful tournament.
