Fashola Commends Capkovic, Hendler For Winning Governor’s Cup

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola has commended the winners of the Men and Women’s Singles of the 2011 Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship, Kamil Capkovic of Slovakia and Tamaryn Hendler of Belgium for their sterling performance in the finals of the ITF-rated tourney.

At the closing ceremony and trophy’ presentation to winners at the Lagos Tennis Club, Onikan on Saturday, Fashola said that the players justified their ranking in the tourney.by winning the championship.

“I must commend you for your sterling performance in today’s finals. You deserve to be champions of Men and Women Singles respectively. You justified your ranking in the tourney and showed that your coming to Lagos was not in vain. I wish you best of luck in your subsequent endeavours,” he said

Fashola reiterated his administration’s commitment to the development of the game in the country and urged private organisations to take interest in and develop the game.

Tournament number 1 male player, Capkovic of Slovakia beat number 3 seed, Indian Vijayant Malik in straight sets of 6-2, 7-5 to win the Men’s Singles, while Belgian lady was too much for Croatia’s Donna Vekic in the final of the Women’s Singles as the number three seed beat the unranked Croatian in straight sets of 6-4, 7-5 to carry the day in the epic Women’s Singles final.
