FRSC Educates Drivers On Safety

The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, and the AJOWA Akute-Ajuwon Tipper Owners and Drivers Association, have urged motorists to prevent carnage on our roads this festive period.

This, the groups said, the motorists could do by obeying all safety laws and taking safety measures.

This advice was given at the FRSC ember campaign rally organised by the RS. 2:27 Agbado Unit Command, held at the Onibudo Tipper Garage, Akute on Thursday.

Speaking at the occasion, the Unit Commander in Agbado, Mr Tajudeen Mafe, said the rally was in line with the United Nations declaration of 2010-2020 as decade of action on Road Safety and Traffic Management.

He further stated that the FRSC as a proactive body has keyed into the UN’s resolution hence the continuous hosting of such rallies across the nation.

Mafe warned road transport workers, commercial motorcycle operators, commercial vehicle operators, pedestrians and other road users against violation of traffic laws during the ember months.

He advised motorists not to let the Yuletide rush lead them into overspeeding and violate other laws and regulations which include dangerous driving, over loading, dangerous overtaking, use of safety helmets, drunkenness and the use of drugs.

The Public Relation Officer, PRO, of the unit, Mr. Francis Oladele, in his address said the main objective of the rally was to prepare the public for the high traffic volume usually experienced during Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Oladele reminded participants that the violation of the above laws always leads to road tragedies, stressing that every road users should put their vehicles in order, especially the tyres, the engine and the electrical connection, before embarking on any journey.

The chairman of the AJOWA Akute-Ajuwon Tipper Owners and Drivers Association, Mr Kamoru Saka, urged all drivers to be careful on the road and avoid dangerous driving in their rush to make more money for the Yuletide.

Saka said the rally came at the right time as the drivers in the area have been craving for such enlightenment programme. He urged the government to organise more of such rallies in the future.

The chairman of working committee of the rally, Mr. Abraham Adigun, in his speech lauded the initiative and called for obedience of traffic laws by drivers.
