LG Boss Warns Staff Against Bureaucracy

The Newly sworn-in Executive Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State, Apostle Oloruntoba Oke, has told the people of the area and the staff of the local government that his administration will not tolerate slow pace of doing things as noticed in many local governments.

Oloruntoba said this while swearing in the newly elected seven councillors of Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Area on Saturday, while performing his first official function as chairman of the council.

The occasion came up at the Events Centre, Area Office, NRC Building, Old Akute Road, Iju, immediately Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola had sworn in all the newly elected chairmen of the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development area of Lagos State.

In his speech at the occasion, Oloruntoba pleaded with the councillors to always remember the circumstances that led to their being elected into the office. He said they have huge responsibilities to meet the aspiration of the people of the area, hence he will not give room for bureaucratic processes in his administration.

He said: “ The road leading to us being elected as representatives of the people of Ifako Ijaiye has been rough and tough and for this, we owe the community immense responsibility in order for the dividends of democracy which they have been clamouring for to get to them as soon as possible.

For this reason, I will charge us all to hit the ground running and to avoid bureaucracy that can prevent us from fulfilling our electoral promises to the people of this community.”

Oloruntoba, who is a private sector professional before delving into politics, charged the councillors from the seven wards of the local government area, to avoid rancour and conduct themselves in a honourable way through out their tenure.

He further stated that he did not believe in one caucus dominating another but rather he believed in justice, fair play and cooperation, as exemplified by his predecessor.

“I will like to admonish everyone of you to always conduct yourself as honourable representatives of your different constituencies. I will enjoin you all to respect one another and don’t see anyone as a fresher in the legislative house.

The occasion was attended by the immediate past chairman of the local government, Mr Demola Doherty and important personalities including Baale and Oba within the community and its environs.

Responding to the admonitions of the chairman, the former leader of the house who was also re-elected, expressed appreciation on behalf of all the councillors and promised that they will always conduct themselves in a way that will not let down the chairman and the people of local government area.
