Chief Arraigned Over False Information
The police have arraigned a 70-year-old man, Chief Fasasi A. Olorunlogbon, before an Ebute Metta Magistrate’s Court on a two-count charge of giving false information and publishing a defamatory story against a Lagos king, Oba Fatai Aromire, the Ojora of Ijora.
Olorunlogbon was alleged to have given false information to Inspector-General of Police which led to the arrest and detention of the monarch and Chief Amuda Yusuf, the Asoju Oba, sometime in June, 2011.
Count one reads: “That you Chief Fasasi A. Olorunlogbon, sometime in June 2011, at Orile, in the Lagos Magistrate rial District did give false information to the Inspector General of Police, knowing it to be false which led to the arrest and detention of Oba Fatai Aromire, Ojora of Ijora and Chief Amuda Yusuf , Asoju Oba and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 125A(I) of the Criminal Code Cap c.17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2003.â€
The offences, according to the prosecutor, Barrister Henry Obiasi, are punishable under Section 125A (I) and 375 of the Criminal Code cap. C17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Folashade Ogalla, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties.
The sureties, the magistrate ordered, must show evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State government, proof of means of livelihood and must be resident within the magisterial district
The matter has been adjourned till 14 November, 2011.
