Igbotako Elites Honour Obasanjo, David Mark

Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo and the Senate President, Senator David Mark, will be honoured on Saturday, 5 November, during the annual Utako Day in Igbotako, Ondo State.

In a statement by the organisers of the event, Obasanjo and Mark have been chosen for the honour because of their contribution to the development of Ikaleland and the society at large.

The chairman, organising committee of the event, Mr. Tayo Ayodele, said this year’s Utako Day will be unique because apart from honouring the dignitaries, there are other side attractions like the Ologbo beauty pageant where daughters of Igbotako will contest for prizes.

Meanwhile, the Jagunmolu of Ikale land, Prince Olu Bajowa, OFR, said the significance of the event is that home is the best, irrespective of where they are in the world. “It is also a platform for us to instil our cultural heritage in the youths.”

Bajowa added that “the primary aim of this year’s Utako Day is to celebrate the late Olu Akinfesile by building a hall in his memory as one of our heroes past. He was the Federal Minister of Communication while alive.”

Events marking this year’s Utako Day will officially begin on Friday, 4 November, 2011 with a gala night. Tolu Obey, son of legendary singer, Ebenezer Obey, will be on the band stand.
