Suspected Bank Robber Arrested

Two years after he was involved in a bank robbery in Lagos, a man has been arrested by the Lagos State Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, led by SP Abbakyari.

The suspect, who was said to be the security guard in the bank, Skye Bank, was arrested in his hideout.

The 30-year-old man, a native of Kaduna State, confessed to having participated in the operation.

He said he was lured into the crime by a woman, who is now on the run.

He said he was promised N500,000 by the woman to organise a gang of armed robbers for the bank robbery.

He said he agreed to the plan, with the assistance of another man, who brought a female accomplice, that gathered other boys for the operation.

The gang went for the robbery on a weekend with the help of the bank security guard.

According to a source, they met an initial stumbling block when a colleague of the guard attempted to expose them. The man was said to have been stabbed in the neck and he died instantly.

The operation was not successful as some members of the gang were apprehended while the guard escaped. After two years on the run, the guard was caught in Apapa by the police and detained for his role in the botched bank robbery and death of his colleague.
