Thugs Invade Agbado/Oke Odo Council Secretariat

Three days after Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola inaugurated the newly elected chairmen of 20 Local Government Councils and 37 Local Council Development Areas in the state, people suspected to be aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party yesterday attacked Agbado/Oke Odo Local Council Development Area.

They used dangerous weapons to unleash terror on the staff of the council at its Oja-Oba Secretariat in Abule-Egba, south west Nigeria.

A press statement signed by Remi Aderibigbe, the Chief Press Secretary to Dr. Augustine Arogun, Chairman of Agbado/Oke Odo LCDA, a copy of which was made available to P.M.NEWS this morning, stated that many people were seriously injured during the attack. One of the victims, according to the statement, was Sola Popoola, Secretary to the council, who was manhandled and beaten by the protesters.

The situation was so tense that commercial vehicle operators and private motorists were also affected while the mayhem lasted for about an hour. Council properties worth millions of naira were said to have been destroyed while the miscreants also dispossessed some residents and council members of their belongings. Many victims sustained injuries and were rushed to hospitals for medical attention .

The incident was later reported at Agbado/Oke Odo Police Station, Ile-Epo along the Lagos/ Abeokuta Road.

Crisis has been brewing in Agbado /Oke Odo LCDA after supporters of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accused members of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) of rigging the council election.

Meanwhile, the Council Chairman, Dr. Arogun has appealed to members of the community to remain calm and go about their normal businesses and promised that the incident would be handled by the appropriate authorities.
