Olympic Playoffs: Eguavoen Calls Azeez, 15 Other Pros To U-23 Eagles

Flying Eagles skipper, Ramon Azeez, has been called up by Nigeria Olympic team, the U-23 Eagles along with 15 other overseas-based professionals ahead of the Olympic Games qualifying tournament in Morocco.

Midfielder Azeez is with the second team of Spanish second division side.

Ukraine-based left winger Babatunde Michael has also been rewarded for his sparkling debut season in Europe.

MTNFootball.com reports that Joel Obi (Inter Milan), Rabiu Ibrahim (PSV Eindhoven) and the quartet of players at Dutch club V V V Venlo – Ahmed Musa, Uche Nwofor, Michael Uchebo and Alex Nkume – were not listed as their availability is still subject to the approval of their clubs.

Coach Austin Eguavoen, who last week embarked on a tour of Europe, warned that “there is no automatic shirt in this team and as such all players must come to prove that they are worthy of making the final 21-man squad for the championship.”

The pros are expected to join up with the Dream Team V next week in Ghana.

The team have until 16 November to submit a final squad list of 21 players for the playoffs which will kicks off from 26 November.

The Dream Team V open the tournament against hosts Morocco on 26 November in Tangiers.

The team are expected to jet out to Ghana this weekend to finalise their preparation for the playoffs, which will be used to determine Africa’s three representatives in the male football event of London 2012 Olympic Games.
