Organisers Plan Big For Mamora Cup

Gbagada Grassroots Sports Association is planning big for this year’s Mamora Cup, which begins on 19 November at Gbagada Roundabout playground.

Secretary of the association, Kemac Emina, assured that this year’s edition will be more glamorous than the previous ones as the sponsor is ready to make it a memorable tourney for all the participating teams.

“In the last meeting we held with the cup donor, it was decided that this year’s edition will be better packaged. The cup donor is planning to increase the prize money and ensure that all the participating teams go home with consolatory prizes,” he said.

Kemac said the finalists will be kited with brand new jerseys, while the eventual winners will go home with the sum of N200, 000 and a giant trophy.

He said the second and third place teams will go home with N150, 000 and N100, 000 respectively, while there would be consolatory prizes for outstanding players in the tournament.

It was gathered that many club owners have been making frantic efforts to register for the grassroots football competition.

The submission of registration forms, according to the organisers, will close next Friday.

Among the clubs that have registered are Tosban FC, Junior United, Mighty Stars, Fetuga FC and Roma FC.

Kemac warned all the participating teams not to engage in any vices that can tarnish the image of the competition, adding that any team that violate the rules will be sanctioned and suspended from taking part in the next two editions of the championship.

Kemac disclosed that Success FC have been suspended from Mamora Cup because of the unsportmanship conduct of their fans during the last Mamora Cup.

“We will not condone any act of indiscipline from any club. All the clubs that want to participate in our competition must follow the rules and regulation. Any club that fail to meet our conditions would be sanctioned or even banned from participating in the tourney,” he said.
