Sanya Unity Cup: Eleven Strikers Eye Victory To Qualify For 2nd Round
Eleven Strikers will have their hands full when they confront Chicago FC in their make or mar last group match of Sanya Unity Cup.
The pulsating encounter will hold on Sunday at the Olympic football pitch, Sanya, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.
Eleven Strikers need outright victory over their opponents to guarantee them a place in the second round of the tournament. Eleven Strikers lost 0-1 to Anointed Stars in their opening match and beat Boca Warriors 2-1 in their second match to garner three points behind group leaders, Chicago FC, who have won their two previous matches and clinched six points.
Eleven Strikers are in a must-win-match against Chicago FC and pray that Boca Warriors shock Anointed Stars to pave way for their qualification to the second round. Anything short of that would see Eleven Strikers bidding the competition bye.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Eleven Strikers’ Team Manager, Saturday Okon, told GSG that his players are in high spirit and ready to take their opponents to the cleaners.
He said there is no cause for alarm, boasting that his team will come out victorious in the match against Chicago FC.
“My players are in high spirit. I know what is at stake and I have told my players to approach the match as if they are playing the final match because failure to win it means we are out of the tournament,†he said.
Okon has promised to motivate the players if they win the match. He, however, warned them not to play to the gallery but take advantage of every opportunity that comes their way in early in the match.
