Traders Demand Bank In Bakolori

Traders at the grains market in Bakori Local Government area of Katsina State on Wednesday appealed for the opening of a commercial bank in the market.

The chairman of the traders, Alhaji Abdullahi Lawal, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bakori that the absence of a bank in the area had made the movement of cash difficult.

Lawal said the only bank in the council area had been closed after it was raided by robbers two years ago.

He said the situation was constituting a hitch to business growth as the traders were afraid to carry large sums of money for fear of being robbed.

Lawal told NAN that traders from different parts of the country as well as the neighbouring countries were coming to the market for transactions.

He pleaded with the relevant authorities to facilitate the opening of a new bank or reopening of the former bank to ease business transactions and enhance the growth of the market.

Lawal said the traders were paying taxes promptly and urged the local government authorities to construct more toilets and stalls in the market.

The market opens twice a week.
