I Never Failed To Deliver —Ajose

Olusegun Ajose is a World Boxing Council, WBC, Light Welterweight contender. In this interview with Boxing In Focus, the ace boxer talks about the challenges he faced before he jetted out of the country for his last bout in the US and what it takes to have a shot at the world title.

How do you feel about your recent victory over Ali Chebah of Canada?

I feel great and lucky to have won the fight. It is true that I won the fight because Ali Chebah came to fight and to win.Winning the bout was a great thing and that has placed me in a position to go for the world title. This is what I had always wanted and I am grateful to God for making this victory possible.

How was the preparation in America considering the fact that you left Nigeria less than two weeks to the bout?

I left Nigeria for the US very late because I didn’t get enough fund. I would have gone to America like three or four weeks before the bout. I appreciate the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fasola, for the financial support he gave me prior to the bout. If not for him, I would have got there three days to the fight and it would have been very disastrous. I was able to travel about seven days to the bout because the governor gave me financial assistance which really helped me for the fight. It helped me to acclimatise before the fight. This is what I have always said that it requires a lot of money to go for a world title or a world-class fight. I hope to get financial support from the government and corporate bodies by the time I am going for the world title.
