Joe, Kamar Evicted From Project Fame
The first eviction show of the on-going MTN Project Fame (season 4) was tension-packed, and one could see the nerves on the faces of the six contestants who were on probation following their less impressive performances the previous week. At the end of the emotion packed session, Joe and Kamar became the first to be evicted from the competition.
Aziga opened the show with a vastly improved performance of Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On. His emotions were more on point this time, his vocal delivery too did not go unnoticed and Kwame (one of the judges) could not resist dropping some rhymes himself like ‘Aziga my nigga, probation is the trigger’, when commenting on the performance.
Zaliha’s delivery also seemed an improvement on her last performance, but the judges felt otherwise. They opined she did not do justice to the song- Whitney Houston’s I look to you, but the faculty on the other hand disagreed and felt it was a better performance.
Kamar did not impress the judges at all with his choice of playing the guitar while singing Robin Thicke’s Lost Without you. They felt the guitar distracted him from singing, but the faculty begged to differ and felt his performance was a lot better than the previous one that landed him on probation.
Emmanuel on the other hand got a standing ovation from everyone after his classic performance of Stand by me by Ben E. King. The judges thanked the faculty for a job well done and especially Mummy J (Joke Silva) for working on his pronunciation.
Imagine Kwame saying he thought he was by the Wailing Wall in Israel while Joe was performing Another Day by Lemar. He did not really come across so well to everyone but the faculty promised to work on it if he makes it back to the Academy. Ethel wrapped up the show with an easy rendition of Vanessa Williams’ You are everything. She got everyone cheering after this performance and judges could not help but tell everyone to give her another round of applause.
Finally, after the week-long tension and canvassing for votes, Joe Benjamin (the host) with lots of drama pulled out the name of the contestant saved by viewers from across West Africa-It was Ethel.
The judges after a long deliberation finally agreed to save – Aziga.
The faculty was left with the tough decision of who should be saved. Wondering perhaps who has more potentials, they saved Emmanuel.
It was time for the remaining contestants, who were not on probation, to pick one person out of Zaliha, Joe and Kamar via their votes. At the end of the exercise, it was Zaliha who became the lucky one.
Meanwhile, following their below par performances, another set of six contestants (Ruth, Chidinma, Isaac, Aziga, Emmanuel and Velma) have been placed on probation and two of them will be evicted this weekend.
Ruth became a victim of probation after the judges said she is a phenomenal vocalist, but didn’t connect with the song. She performed How Do I Live by Leanne Rhymes.
As for Chidinma who performed Betty Midler’s Wind Beneath My Wings, the judges were of the opinion that that she didn’t connect her emotions with the song.
Isaac, after performing Apologise by One Republic, could not escape probation, while Aziga also became a victim the second time in a row after the judges said he needs to work on the progression of his performance. He did This Love by Maroon Five.
After what seemed to be an improved performance from Emmanuel with the song Hotel California by The Eagles, he could not escape probation as the judges said: “There is still more to you that we are not seeing yet in terms of personality and connection with audienceâ€.
Velma completed the probation list after she could not also impress the judges with her performance of Shania Twain’s From This Moment.
