One Arraigned Over N.8m Theft


A 37-year-old man, Anthony Adewunmi is now facing trial before an Ikeja magistrate’s court sitting in Abule-Egba, Lagos, southwest Nigeria over N870, 500 theft.

Adewunmi allegedly stole N706,500 from Alhaji Moshood Bello in Ipaja area of Lagos State.

He reportedly stole another N164, 250 from Mrs. Mary Adewole in the same area of Lagos on 12 October, 2011 and he was charged to court on a two count charge of stealing.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Lugard Ahonle said the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap. 17, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The trial Magistrate, Mr. O.A. Komolafe admitted him to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed, be a blood relation to the accused person and show evidence of tax payment, national identity card and driver’s license to the prosecutor for verification.

The matter has been adjourned till 9 January, 2011 for mention.
