Suspected Car Thieves Arrested

The police in Lagos have arrested a gang of car robbers.

The suspects from Benin, Edo State, were said to have stolen a Toyota Camry car which they drove to Lagos with the intention to sell it.

According to police report, on 25 October, a young man took his master’s wife to Benin Golf Club and left the car behind for the woman to drive herself back home. He return to the house and took another Toyota Camry car with registration number EP144 KRD and N1.3million cash and with three others, drove to Lagos with the intention to sell the car.

According to our source, when the suspects got to Lagos they went into a bar and ordered a hard drink worth N4,000.

Suspecting that they could be criminals as they were looking too poor to afford such a drink, another customer in the bar alerted the police.

The suspects were said to have failed to satisfactorily explain how they came about the car when they were questioned by the police and they were promptly arrested. One of the suspects disassociated himself from the gang, saying that he merely asked for a lift from one of them who he claimed they were selling phone together with the hope of coming to Katangwa in Lagos to buy second hand clothes. When asked if he asked his friend how he got the car that took them to Lagos and the money he was spending, he said he did not ask.

He said it was his friend that stole the car and that he has been selling stolen cars.

The suspects, according to a police source, have been taken back to Benin for proper investigation.
