Tinubu, Kaunda Lead Lagos AIDS Walk

Kenneth Kaunda, former president of Zambia Republic and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Lagos State Governor will lead other dignitaries at a one-million-man Lagos AIDS Walk scheduled for Lagos on 26 November.

According to a statement made available to P.M.NEWS, an indigenous community-based organisation (CBO), Biire Child and Maternal Health Foundation in conjunction with the Lagos State Government is putting finishing touches to a project which aims to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the discovery of HIV in a record-making manner.

The project, aimed at boosting public awareness of an anti-stigma and anti-discrimination Law enacted in May 2007 by the Lagos State government under the leadership of Governor Tinubu, is also to increase the public patronage of the Law.

Dare Ajayi, the Founder of Biire, the  partnering CBO stated on the walkathon: “What is most exciting about the walk is the active passion and compassion in the high networth personalities and celebrities who have signified their interest to join the anticipated thousands of walkers, all to be led by Asiwaju (Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the erstwhile Lagos State Governor who signed the bill into law), the former president of Zambia Republic, Kenneth Kaunda (who is currently in Nigeria on a courtesy visit to President Goodluck Jonathan) and who has also endorsed the walkathon with a promise to participate in it.”

According to Ajayi, the one-million-man Lagos AIDS Walk will  provide the opportunity for its organisers, partner organisations and sponsor-brands to create the world’s largest human red-ribbon: the global symbol of humanitarian concern for HIV/AIDS around the first flyover on the Third Mainland Bridge.
