Glo Rocks Ojude Oba Festival

The 2011 edition of the Ojude Oba festival in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, southwest Nigeria, will remain evergreen in the memory of the indigenes of the town as Africa’s fastest growing telecommunications outfit, Globacom, added excitement to the annual celebration with its entertaining Glo Rock ‘N’ Rule musical concert.

The concert held at the Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu Ode, was a mixed bag of the old and the new in the nation’s entertainment industry as artistes drawn from across the country were on hand to entertain the people.

From the Afro Juju icon, Sir Shina Peters, to the weird hip-hop star, Terry G, the audience at the concert were treated to a variety of Nigerian music just as budding artistes in the locality were given an opportunity to showcase their talents.

At the concert anchored by the ace comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka 1st, SSP led the pack of young stars by reawakening memories with old lyrics from his percussive repertoire. Others like Eedris Abdukareem, Konga, Terry G, Katz, and Father U-Turn energised the crowd with modern dancing steps and songs.

Miss Sanni Yetunde Fatimat, a 200 level student of Tai Solarin University of Education, who emerged as Miss Ojude Oba 2011, was rewarded with a cash prize of N100,000.  Busari Yetunde Olayinka and Quadrillion Oluwastosin who emerged first and second runners up in the keenly contested beauty pageant won N75,000 and N50,000 respectively, .

Beside the pageant, talented indigenes of the town who displayed outstanding singing and dancing abilities during the show were rewarded with Nokia phones by Globacom.

Globacom, the official sponsors of the ancient Ojude Oba Festival, earlier in the day donated a block of four classrooms, one IT centre and eight conveniences to the Ijebu Muslim High School, Ijebu Ode, as part of its contributions to the education development in the town.

Akeem Kazeem, Globacom’s Head of Lagos Territory while speaking before crowning the beauty queen, said the concert and the participation of the company in cultural activities was a way of giving back to the society and a way of demonstrating that Globacom is all about Nigeria and Nigerians.
