Lagos Legion Gets Patron Van Donation
The Nigerian Legion of ex-service men, Lagos State chapter, last Friday took possession of a N2.5 million patrol van donated to it by the Zone A of the organisation.
Colonel Adekunle Adekoya (rtd), chairman of the legion, Zone A, performed the presentation ceremony at the organisation’s headquarters at Alausa secretariat, Ikeja, Lagos.
Receiving the van, chairman, Lagos chapter and Deputy Commandant-General, Nigerian Legion, Col. Femi Oguntade (rtd), commended the gesture, describing the legion as a humanitarian organisation with the objective of helping its members and the public at large.
Oguntade observed that the donation was the first by any zone of the legion to the headquarters, which is a challenge to other zones.
He also commended the Lagos State government for its assistance to the legion, having donated two buses for members’ use in the past.
Vice chairman of Zone A of the legion, Dr. Oyeyemi, said donation of the van was aimed at adding value to the activities of members in providing security to the populace.
The Lagos State chairman, Oguntade, seized the opportunity of the presentation to appeal to President Goodluck Jonathan and the Federal Government to pay the pension of its members which had been pending since 2002 as well as the shortfall of about 65 per cent of their entitlement.
